Great article, Matt. OV has really become my GO TO play for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. Our personnel had dictated we use a lot more TE/Heavy formations the past decade, so OV gets a lot more hits for me than IV. My favorite thing is to take a 4 Tech who is hard to block and alternately DOUBLE him with OV and let him go and read him with IV. FUN to watch those dudes getting bamboozled when they go to attack a double team and run 2 yards deep in the backfield as the FB goes right by them on IV.

We play a lot of mesh charge 4/4i defenses. We plan to add OSV to the arsenal this season, especially since we will set up in an slot "I" or slot split back set on occasion. I expect great things from this play....had not thought of using to get a 3 man surface, should make this even better.
The play described in the YouTube with Coach Rodriguez, to me, is not OSV. The way he is coaching it (and what I THINK Navy was doing in those clips) is what we call 12 Bear. I need to re-watch the video, but this was my first impression.

Not JUST Navy...GT, too
