I know this is not a new story, but I was thinking about the coach from Pulaski Academy and the never punt philosophy today. For those not familiar with the story, his teams never punt... EVER! From an analytics standpoint it makes a lot of sense, especially for option teams. His teams also onside kick all the time as well.
What are your thoughts about the no punt philosophy?
Anyone ever consider this?

I'm trying to convince our head coach to get on board with this as far as the onside kicks go. We NEVER have good kickers and consistently start on defense around the 35 or 40 so I'm all about trying to steal a possession!

We do onside kicks a lot, but mainly because the other team has multiple stud athletes where as we typically....don't. Main reason is to limit the return, not just to get more possessions. I don't subscribe to the "never punt" philosophy, but I do subscribe to the "rarely punt" philosophy. Reason being similar to that above, but more so because our kids (middle school level at the moment) can only punt the ball a total of 30-35 yards average, take that off of the snap distance (10-12) and we're not netting much yardage even without a return. So for us, it makes sense to go for it much more often (we will go typically with 4 or less for the first).
